Product detailed description
The publication Midnight of Art accompanies the exhibition series Ways of Collecting and offers a curated selection of works from the collection of Karel Babíček. Spanning from the late 1980s to the present, it places particular focus on the 1990s—the collector’s most active period.
The catalogue includes works by important international artists first introduced in Prague by Babíček in that decade. The artworks were borrowed either directly from the artists or from foreign galleries.
It was within Babíček’s archive that conceptual objects and installations first appeared in a Czech private collection, marking a turning point in local collecting practices.
The publication also contains an interview with the collector that preserves key facts absent from other sources, as well as accompanying essays reflecting the inspirational nature of the collection.
Serving as the first step toward cataloguing and organizing this significant private collection, the book provides valuable insight into the evolution of Czech art collecting.
