Detailed information

Product detailed description

The limited edition catalogue for the exhibition READ at Kunsthalle Praha (2023–2024) consists of 30 signed and numbered copies, each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The catalogue is housed in an original case resembling a book, featuring a leather spine and marbled cover. It closes magnetically and can be easily lifted out with its red silk ribbon. Every spine bears a hand-written title by the artists.

READ marks Elmgreen & Dragset’s first major presentation in the Czech Republic. The exhibition explores the relationship between books and art, reflecting on our connection to physical books and knowledge in the digital age. The gallery installations include sculptures, performances, videos, collages, and paintings, while the catalogue presents curatorial essays and expert texts in English on topics ranging from Czech samizdat history to contemporary challenges of freedom of speech in the digital era. This richly illustrated volume documents the dynamic interplay of language, books, and art at the heart of the project.

Elmgreen & Dragset – artist duo

Elmgreen & Dragset are a Berlin-based artist duo formed by Michael Elmgreen (Denmark) and Ingar Dragset (Norway), collaborating since 1995. Their practice combines art, architecture and design and is recognized for its subversive humour and critical reflection on social structures.

They create site-specific installations and sculptures that often transform public space or institutional settings – among their most iconic works are Prada Marfa in the Texas desert and Powerless Structures, Fig. 101 on London’s Fourth Plinth.

Their projects examine identity, the politics of display, and the boundaries between public and private, using irony and staging to reveal how contemporary culture is constructed.
