Detailed information

Product detailed description

In just fifteen years, Antonín Chittussi created an extensive body of landscape paintings and drawings in which he combined his experiences from his stay in France (1879–1884) with his native Czech environment. His work places Czech landscape painting in a European context and significantly influenced the status of landscape painting as a leading field of fine art.

The book systematically examines Chittussi’s creative process, traces the development of his painterly language, and offers the most comprehensive catalogue to date of his landscapes and drawings, organized according to main themes and motifs. The work is discussed in relation to the Barbizon School and the artist’s inner inclinations, allowing for a deep understanding of his realistic and more poetic positions.
