Catalogue Gregor Hildebrandt

The photographic sequences from an exhibition catalog, co-designed by Kunsthalle Praha and Hildebrandt´s studio capture the atmosphere of the exhibition and transport the viewer straight into its space. Further perspectives on and insights into Hildebrandt’s life are offered by Christelle Havranek’s curatorial text and an essay by Friedemann Hahn, Hildebrandt’s professor of painting at the Kunsthochschule Mainz. The book also includes archival materials from Hildebrandt’s studio, his project space Grzegorzki Shows and the music label Grzegorzki Records, which provide insight into his creative process and ties with other artists, friends, students, and art lovers on an international scale.

Gregor Hildebrandt

Kunsthalle Praha presented the first solo exhibition of Gregor Hildebrandt, A Blink of an Eye and the Years are Behind Us as a part of the programme of solo exhibitions by major living artists. Working mainly with analogue sound storage mediums, the German artist creates sculptures, installations, and paintings with materials such as compression moulded vinyl, audiotapes on canvas, cassette shells or chess pawns. Hildebrandt’s work makes formal references to Minimalism and Abstract expressionism, it is also nourished by a multitude of literary, cinematographic, musical and architectural inspirations. These cultural sources trigger both collective and personal memories. Gregor Hildebrandt is currently living in Berlin and since 2015 he has been a professor of painting and graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 2016, he won the prestigious Falkenrot Preis award and in 2018, together with his partner, artist Alicja Kwade, he founded Grzegorzki Records, a label that supports young emerging musicians.
