Product detailed description
Fifty-two weeks – that’s how much time ten-year-old Mona has to discover the beauty of the world. Every Wednesday after school, her grandfather Henry takes her to an art gallery, where they immerse themselves in a single masterpiece. Together they visit the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, and the Centre Pompidou, gradually discovering 52 selected works, which they discuss, letting themselves be moved and inspired by them, knowing that Mona is facing the permanent loss of her sight.
Along the way, she discovers the power of Botticelli, Vermeer, Goya, Courbet, Kahlo, and Basquiat, but also the significance of doubt, melancholy, loss, and rebellion. Mona’s Eyes is a novel about the depth of human life, a guide to the most significant works of world art, and a touching story about the relationship between a granddaughter and her grandfather. The book by French art historian Thomas Schlesser has become an international phenomenon, published in 37 countries, and the Czech edition also includes a fold-out dust jacket with colour reproductions of all the works.
