Detailed information

Product detailed description

This magnet draws on the visual language of William Kentridge, one of the most important contemporary artists. His work combines drawing, text, and movement, often exploring themes of memory, history, and social change.

The motif is connected to the exhibition The Battle Between YES and NO at Kunsthalle Praha, presenting Kentridge’s practice in a broader context – from personal narratives to universal questions. His expressive mark-making and fragmented compositions are translated here into a compact format.

A subtle reminder of the exhibition you can keep within reach – a small object that carries the memory of an encounter with contemporary art.

William Kentridge

William Kentridge (*1955, Johannesburg) is one of the most influential contemporary artists. His multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, printmaking, film, animation, theatre, and installation, exploring the relationship between image, time, and memory.

Deeply shaped by the political and historical context of South Africa, particularly apartheid, his work addresses themes of power, injustice, collective memory, and human responsibility. He often works through fragmentation, repetition, and shifting meaning.

Drawing remains central to his practice as a process in flux – images are never fixed but constantly erased, redrawn, and transformed. This openness gives his work a distinctive and enduring relevance.
