Kultivar

Kultivar is a glassmaking studio, creative hub and social enterprise rooted in the traditional craft of lampworking and glass blowing. Founded in Liberec in 2016 by Klára Jägerová, the space originally combined a shared workshop, the author’s own studio “U Kahanu” and a showroom for local artisans. Thanks to its generous premises, Kultivar soon developed into a vibrant cultural centre hosting events, exhibitions and hands-on workshops.

Between 2016 and 2021, Kultivar organised more than 150 craft workshops and numerous lectures and community events focused on sustainability, creativity and material awareness. It also served as a gallery and retail space supporting local makers.

After the pandemic forced the closure of its original venue, the project continued in pop-up form until 2023, when a new chapter began: together with Eva Jägerová, the studio was revived with a renewed focus on glassmaking. Today, Kultivar operates from Liberec’s Františkov district and brings together a team of six makers.

Kultivar’s mission is to preserve, teach and further develop the traditional lampworking technique. As a social enterprise, it prioritises sustainability — using primarily local glass, upcycling waste material, organising workshops on low-waste practices and creating employment opportunities for people who face barriers in creative craft fields.

More than 50% of the studio’s profit is reinvested into community development, making Kultivar not only a place of craftsmanship but also a meaningful cultural and social cornerstone.
