Product detailed description
Ever since electricity became ubiquitous, artists have been fascinated by its manifold possibilities. The catalogue Kinetismus: 100 Years of Electricity in Art, accompanying the opening exhibition at Kunsthalle Praha, explores how electricity has transformed artistic practice from 1920 to the present day—including cinematography, sound art, kinetic and mechanical sculptures, computer-based art, and immersive installations.
A historical perspective emphasizes that electricity—with usages from artificial light to computing—has become a defining element of society. The catalogue features an essay by exhibition concept author Peter Weibel, four thematic chapters by co-curator Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás, and descriptions and reproductions of key artworks by Mary Ellen Bute, William Kentridge, Christina Kubisch, Zdeněk Pešánek, Anna Ridler, Nicolas Schöffer, Jeffrey Shaw, Takis, Steina, and Woody Vasulka.
