Detailed information

Product detailed description

“It is better to rejoice in the flower of the rose than to stick its root under a microscope,” wrote Oscar Wilde. But designer Helena Patelisová dares to do the opposite—inviting us to admire what is usually hidden beneath the surface.

Her Roots collection reimagines floral beauty by honoring the roots themselves—symbols of strength, growth, and new beginnings. Patelisová collected 12 actual roots during weeding and cast them in porcelain, manually adhering them to her vases. Each root is unique; each composition entirely unrepeatable.

The bodies of the vases follow three base forms, but even these evolve naturally—their upper edges are hand-finished and deliberately irregular. Each vase is a singular expression, sculpted by craft and intuition.

Made from fine porcelain, the Roots Vase invites deeper reflection—not just on nature, but on what lies beneath.

Helena Patelisová – Czech porcelain designer and artist

Helena Patelisová is a Czech porcelain designer and visual artist whose work merges ceramic craftsmanship, applied art, and slow design. She views porcelain as a medium through which fragile thoughts become tangible and communicable.

Her practice blurs the line between sculpture and functional design, often infused with personal narratives and a gentle sense of irony. In her project “Maskoti” (Mascots), she caricatures herself in everyday situations, portraying modern-day pierrots caught between humour, awkwardness, and introspection.

Together with Aylin Irfanova, she founded Studio Wrinkle while studying at the Faculty of Art and Design UJEP in Ústí nad Labem. The studio focuses on slow design and projects inspired by recycling and material recirculation. She continues to create under her own name at Atelier B114 in Prague’s Žižkov district.

Helena Patelisová perceives porcelain as a carrier of emotions, symbolism, and dialogue—a medium where subtle ideas find a lasting voice.
