Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Icona vase from the Metropolis collection, designed by Kateřina Handlová, pays tribute to disappearing urban architecture and its often overlooked details. It draws on the contrast between the rigid geometry of brutalist buildings and the softer decorative elements that brought rhythm and humanity into these spaces.

The distinctive cut creates an organic surface that invites personal interpretation – from architectural details to the silhouette of now-vanished landmarks such as Prague’s Hotel Praha.

Hand-blown and hand-cut from lead-free crystal, each piece is unique. The vase works beautifully both as a functional object for flowers and as a standalone design statement, adding subtlety, narrative, and visual tension to any interior.

Rückl is a traditional Czech glassworks with more than a century of history, renowned for its precision-cut crystal and distinctive decorative style. The brand was founded in 1903 and has gradually built a solid position among the icons of Czech glassmaking. Its work is based on master craftsmanship, hand-cut glass and a deep respect for a material that is symbolic of Czech culture.

The brand's current image is largely shaped by artistic director Kateřina Handlová. She grew up in a family of glass artists and has been involved with glass since high school and throughout her studies at UMPRUM. She gained experience abroad, including at the Dutch studio Thier & VanDaalen and at LASVIT, where she worked as a senior designer, and also worked in Dubai for several years. She also designed a collection of lighting fixtures for the Bomma brand. In her work, she combines an eye for detail, inspiration from fashion and oriental culture with a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship.

Under her leadership, Rückl brings a contemporary perspective to cut glass – bolder, more confident, and visually striking. Traditional techniques take on a new context here, and crystal becomes a medium for contemporary design expression. Each object is created in a Czech glassworks and is proof that quality craftsmanship and an innovative artistic approach can form a harmonious whole.

Today, Rückl represents a combination of historical heritage and modern aesthetics – a brand built on precision, courage, and the timeless beauty of Czech crystal.
