Product detailed description
Kinetismus: 100 Years of Electricity in Art accompanies the opening exhibition at Kunsthalle Praha and explores how electricity has transformed artistic practice from 1920 to the present day – including cinematography, sound art, kinetic and mechanical sculpture, computer-based art, and immersive installations.
Providing a historical and conceptual overview, the book highlights how electricity – from artificial light to computing – has become a defining element of both modern life and contemporary art.
It features an essay by exhibition concept author Peter Weibel, four thematic chapters by co-curator Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás, and texts and reproductions of key works by artists such as Mary Ellen Bute, William Kentridge, Christina Kubisch, Zdeněk Pešánek, Anna Ridler, Nicolas Schöffer, Jeffrey Shaw, Takis, Steina, and Woody Vasulka.
The catalogue illustrates how technological innovation and artistic experimentation have remained intertwined throughout the past century.
