Product detailed description
Otti Berger transformed the possibilities of textile design through her experimental work at the Bauhaus in early-1930s Berlin. As both a core member of the school’s weave workshop and a pioneering female entrepreneur, she collaborated with New Objectivity architects—Lilly Reich, Ludwig Hilberseimer, and Hans Scharoun—to create upholstery, tapestries, curtains, and carpets that seamlessly blended aesthetics with novel production techniques and uses.
This volume is the first in-depth exploration of Berger’s oeuvre, presenting over 400 previously unpublished fabrics alongside her theoretical treatise on textile methodology. Judith Raum’s research offers an entirely new perspective on Berger’s contribution to modernist architecture and design, illuminating the complexity, beauty, and lasting impact of her work.
