Detailed information

Product detailed description

The publication William Kentridge: Anatomie ateliéru brings together the complete transcripts of his Slade Lectures, delivered at the University of Oxford in 2024. Accompanied by photographs and illustrations, the book offers insight not only into his artistic process, but also into the way he approaches image, time and meaning.

Across six chapters, Kentridge reflects on the emergence of ideas, the role of chance and error, and how fragments gradually evolve into finished works. Personal narratives – including memories of growing up in apartheid-era South Africa and his family background – intertwine with broader reflections on art, history and human experience.

The publication also includes a foreword by Dutch poet Alfred Schaffer and a curatorial text by Christelle Havranek, written for the exhibition William Kentridge: The Battle Between YES and NO, the artist’s first major presentation in the Czech Republic. The result is a layered and thought-provoking book that offers a deeper understanding of both Kentridge’s work and the nature of artistic creation.
