Product detailed description
What is an educational gallery? Can accompanying and educational programmes become an equal part of an exhibition? How can current social issues be communicated in an accessible way? Is it possible to create and exhibit contemporary art together in a single space? The publication Why 27 Seconds Is Not Enough? focuses on a current phenomenon in the Czech gallery scene – the educational gallery. This type of gallery places visitors at its centre and adapts all aspects of the institution accordingly. Instead of separating exhibition spaces from educational programmes, everything is brought together into one coherent whole. Galerie Atrium Žižkov represents a unique example of this approach in the Czech context, and through this publication its creators share their experience and insights. The book is edited by Ondřej Horák (Fuczik), author of the gallery’s exhibition concept and curator of its exhibitions. Gallery director Marie Kašparová explains the chosen dramaturgy and management of such an institution. Educators Tereza Beranová and Kristýna Kalivodová authored most of the educational programmes, while philosopher Adam Lalák prepared a series of debates exploring the relationship between art and society. Additional contributors include art theorist Silvie Šeborová and artist Richard Loskot. The publication also features interviews and critical reflections on ten exhibition projects realised between 2021–2025.
