During a time when theatres, cinemas and circuses across the world were silenced by pandemic restrictions, the actors of Prague’s contemporary circus La Putyka found new ways to reach their audience. In defiance of lockdowns and social distancing, they transformed windows into stages, broadcasted live shows over loudspeakers in rural areas, and even streamed a 24-hour solo performance.
Photographers from the 400 ASA collective—Karel Cudlín, Jan Dobrovský, and Jan Mihaliček—followed these bold experiments for an entire year. Their images form a visual record of a company’s resilience, creativity, and need to connect with the public, no matter the obstacles.
