Detailed information

Product detailed description

Mona, a ten-year-old girl, has only fifty-two weeks to discover the beauty of the world. Every Wednesday her grandfather Henry takes her to a museum, where together they immerse themselves in one masterpiece. They visit the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou, exploring 52 iconic works—discussing, questioning, and letting themselves be moved and inspired, knowing that Mona faces the permanent loss of her sight.

Along the way, she discovers the power of Botticelli, Vermeer, Goya, Courbet, Kahlo, Basquiat and many more, as well as the importance of doubt, melancholy, loss, and rebellion. The Eyes of Mona is at once a novel about the depth of human life, a guide to the world’s greatest works of art, and a moving story about the bond between a granddaughter and her grandfather. Written by French art historian Thomas Schlesser, the book became an international phenomenon, published in 37 countries. The Czech edition also includes a fold-out jacket with color reproductions of all 52 artworks discussed by Mona and Henry.
