Horse and Snake. Milestones and Snapshots is a humorous and touching picture book about friendship, history, and the parallel stories we often overlook.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

Subtitled “157 million years of love between a horse and a snake,” this playful book tells the story of two friends through world history. They appear everywhere – even in places you wouldn’t expect – and while in their first monochrome, almost samizdat-style volume, they timidly explored the terrain, this time they find themselves in a full-color family photo album of world history – from dinosaurs to the construction of Prague’s Metro D.

Horse and Snake. Milestones and Snapshots can also be read as a poignant commentary on humanity. While humankind is often self-absorbed, focused only on itself and its own history, other stories unfold in parallel – unnoticed tales of friendship, quiet heroism, poetic moments... Klára Zahrádková is a visual poet, showing us a world we’d like to live in.

Baobab Bookshop in Tábor

Baobab is a small family-run publishing house founded at the turn of the millennium in Prague’s Vinohrady district by Juraj Horváth and Tereza Horváthová. What began as a passion for artist’s books and bibliophile editions has grown into one of the leading Czech publishers of illustrated books for children.

The name refers to the baobab tree – a symbol of resilience, creativity, and community. Like the tree, their publishing work provides shelter for stories and connects generations through imagination and craftsmanship.

Baobab focuses on contemporary illustrated books, collaborating with prominent illustrators, writers, and designers. Their books balance poetic storytelling, visual inventiveness, and educational value while maintaining a distinctive artistic voice.

Beyond publishing, Baobab organizes cultural events and exhibitions, such as the Baobabí léto and Tabook festivals, and runs bookshops and galleries in Prague and Tábor. They foster a creative community around illustration, literature, and independent publishing.

In 2011, Baobab founded the Miroslav Šašek Foundation, reviving his legendary This is... travel series and supporting illustrators through annual grants and residencies. The publishing house continues to bridge heritage, education, and contemporary visual storytelling.
