How to Start an Art Collection

Product detailed description
Anyone can collect art. The art world can seem closed, its prices unclear and its rules like something you are supposed to know in advance. How to Start an Art Collection takes that impression apart. Georgia Spray argues that a collection can begin in any space and on any budget, and shows how.
The book answers the questions nearly every beginner asks:
• How do I know what I really like?
• What is a sensible amount to spend on an artwork?
• How can I tell whether the price is fair?
• How should I frame it, and where should it hang?
The advice is illustrated with photographs from artists' studios and new collectors' homes, which show how differently a collection can look in a small flat and in a spacious house. The author draws on her own experience, and the tone is personal and clear, so the book suits beginners as well as those who already own a first piece and want to build their selection with more thought. It also makes a fitting gift for anyone interested in the visual arts who has not yet found the courage to buy something.
