Detailed information

Product detailed description

These stickers bring details from Papier peint Utérus (2017) by Annette Messager into a small, everyday format. The wallpaper is covered with delicately coloured uteruses, some of whose fallopian tubes transform into raised middle fingers. The work combines fragile decorative imagery with a sharp, subversive gesture – and the humour that is characteristic of Messager’s work. Each pack contains both designs, each featuring a different detail from the wallpaper.

The design comes from the exhibition Annette Messager: Tragikomedie at Kunsthalle Praha, which explores key themes in her work across five decades. The female body, desire and the right to self-determination appear throughout the exhibition with both playfulness and unease, caught between tenderness and defiance.

Use the stickers on your laptop, phone, diary, notebook or any other everyday object. They are a small reminder of the exhibition – and an easy way to take a piece of Annette Messager’s work beyond the gallery.

Annette Messager

Annette Messager is a French artist whose work spans installation, drawing, collage, photography and sculpture. She represented France at the 2005 Venice Biennale, where she was awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation. Her work has been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, MoMA in New York and Hayward Gallery in London.

Her work has long explored the body, gender, desire and memory. Her early works examined systems of control and stereotypes surrounding women, while from the 1980s onwards she developed new forms of the female figure – witches, monsters, heroines and protesting figures. Humour and subtle subversion are recurring elements throughout her practice.

Her work often brings opposites together – care and violence, order and chaos, playfulness and unease. In doing so, she turns familiar ideas slightly on their head and invites us to look at them differently.
