Richard Hamilton: introspective

In Stock

Richard Hamilton is a remarkable posthumous publication by the legendary British painter and collagist Richard Hamilton (1922–2011) – never completed, published exactly as he left it. A companion piece to his retrospective catalogue (1937–2000), it preserves blank pages, unfinished chapters and the author's own typography as a testament to the final hours spent in its making. The book, on which Hamilton worked from 2007, stands as a record of his thinking and process – material, gesture and incompleteness as an artistic statement in themselves.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

Unfinished Book presents Richard Hamilton’s final, incomplete text-and-image project, conceived as a companion to his 2003 Retrospective catalogue raisonné (1937–2000). Written and designed by Hamilton (with Phillip Spectre’s assistance) during a period of convalescence after a hip fracture, the project saw content, typography, and images evolve in tandem with the emergence of digital layout tools like Adobe InDesign.

Published exactly as Hamilton left it in 2011 – complete with blank leaves, original pagination, and unaltered layouts – this volume offers a rare window into the late creative process of one of Britain’s foremost painters and collage artists, capturing his lifelong commitment to innovation in both form and method.
