Product detailed description
This catalog accompanies the exhibition “Tönend hallt die Jugend” held at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen from October 6 to November 18, 2018. It offers a comprehensive look into the work of Gregor Hildebrandt, whose artistic practice is deeply intertwined with analog recording media such as audiotapes, videotapes, and vinyl records.
For more than twenty years, Hildebrandt has been developing a highly distinctive visual language that is at once minimalist and materially rich. His large-scale canvases, soaring columns, and sculptural installations explore themes of time, silence, and memory. By embedding sound-bearing media into his artworks, he invites the viewer to consider how music, film, and poetry can be translated into a physical and timeless form.
The exhibition featured both early seminal works and recent pieces, dramatically installed within the austere, cubic rooms of a former WWII bunker. This publication not only documents the show but also reflects Hildebrandt’s consistent yet versatile engagement with rhythm, space, and materiality.
