Product detailed description

Is Prague still the beautiful, amazing, and fascinating city it once was, or has it been worn down by millions of tourists rushing from Prague Castle, over Charles Bridge, to the Old Town Square and back? Prague is a city full of towers, hills, gardens, lanes, houses, pubs, secrets, stories, memories, people, animals, and statues. This book invites you to see the city anew.

Stroll through the streets with Michaela Kukovičová and Olga Černá as they reveal bridges, islands, observatories, parks, the bustling center, and the quiet suburbs. Discover how many bridges span the Vltava, learn about the house where the devil smashed the ceiling, and enjoy the views from Žižkov Tower. You’ll also find tips on where to buy the best sandwiches in town.

Alongside sightseeing, the book shares fascinating tales — from the boy who turned into a beetle, the legend of the Golem, to the heroic story of Sir Winton, and dramatic moments like the assassination of Heydrich and adventures of a Czech president at the Castle. In Prague, there is always something to marvel at.

Baobab Bookshop in Tábor

Baobab is a small family-run publishing house founded at the turn of the millennium in Prague’s Vinohrady district by Juraj Horváth and Tereza Horváthová. What began as a passion for artist’s books and bibliophile editions has grown into one of the leading Czech publishers of illustrated books for children.

The name refers to the baobab tree – a symbol of resilience, creativity, and community. Like the tree, their publishing work provides shelter for stories and connects generations through imagination and craftsmanship.

Baobab focuses on contemporary illustrated books, collaborating with prominent illustrators, writers, and designers. Their books balance poetic storytelling, visual inventiveness, and educational value while maintaining a distinctive artistic voice.

Beyond publishing, Baobab organizes cultural events and exhibitions, such as the Baobabí léto and Tabook festivals, and runs bookshops and galleries in Prague and Tábor. They foster a creative community around illustration, literature, and independent publishing.

In 2011, Baobab founded the Miroslav Šašek Foundation, reviving his legendary This is... travel series and supporting illustrators through annual grants and residencies. The publishing house continues to bridge heritage, education, and contemporary visual storytelling.
