A white horse suddenly appears in the secluded Isaya valley, which is home to just one family. A young boy Lam rides away on horse's back, and so thirteen-year-old Alma immediately sets out in her brother’s tracks. But the world outside is completely different than that which they have called home until now. Some people are slaves while others hunt them in order to sell them and become rich. The most valuable slaves are members of the same tribe to which Alma and her family belong. At about that same time, onboard a slave ship, a boy named Joseph Mars hides a rare watch in the captain’s pocket.
