There’s a lovely apple lying on the kitchen table. But is it really an apple? A little boy poses a question when he gets home. Couldn’t it be something else? And what would it probably be? Why are some things different inside than outside? What would happen to me, to mum, to the world if an apple wasn’t an apple? There are times when children flood us with questions – some seem funny to us, some are ridiculous, others are unimportant. Children don’t see this difference and let themselves be carried away by their imagination. Sometimes they ask questions because they are afraid, at other times it’s because they are stubborn or have let their fantasy loose, but often they ask us questions to take a peak beneath the surface of the world of adults who don’t have time for questions. The fact is that if we think about the properly, each question can take us to an unexplored territory. Why can’t an apple be a house or a house be like an apple? Why should the visible world be the same as the invisible one? This Czech version of Japanese illustrator and author Shinsuke Yoshitake’s book “It Might Be an Apple” is both humorous and clever at the same time – just like all curious children and philosophers.
